Christy Mathewson | T-206 Baseball Greats Series

The T-206 baseball cards (1909–1911) are among the most iconic and collectible in the hobby. Known as the "White Border" set, they feature 524 lithographic portraits of major and minor league players, distributed by tobacco brands. These cards are prized for their detailed artwork, historical significance, and variations in print runs and back designs. The set remains highly sought after, featuring baseball greats such as Honus Wagner, Cy Young, Christy Mathewson, Ty Cobb, and Walter Johnson.

Christopher “Christy” Mathewson, was a Factoryville, PA native who entered the league in 1900 at the age of 19. He began his career as the youngest player in the league, and became without question, one of the greatest pitchers to ever take the mound.

A four-time league leader in wins, he had 12 consecutive 20 win seasons, and finished his career ranked third all-time with 373. He lead the league in ERA five times, and is ranked 5th all-time with a career ERA of 2.13. He started 552 games, completed 435 of those, and was elected to the inaugural Hall of Fame class of 1936.

In the original T-206 series, Mathewson had two poses, a portrait and a posed shot with glove at chest. The latter has two variations, one with a black hat, and one with a white hat.
